• Analysis of the Literature Bibliometrics and Review of the Chinese Literature on Internet Governance

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] With the popularity of the Internet, more and more attention has been paid to the research of Internet governance. The original data are based on Chinese literatures from CNKI database in the field of Internet Governance from 2002 to 2014, and the visualized bibliometric analysis is carried out by using CiteSpace. [Method/process] This paper analyzedthe network of co-occurring authors and research institutions, research themes and hot topics, the situation of the research theme change, and characteristics of research based on research themes. [Result/conclusion] This study shows that there is more communication in the same institutions and less cooperation among different institutions in the field of Internet governance. The knowledge background of the majority of scholars is communication; the research achievement of the network security and the public opinion of network are more abundant. Themes can be roughly divided into three stages: first focusing on technology, resource and industry, then focusing on content management, and now focusing on the development of broad connotation of Internet governance.

  • Analysis of Influence Factors and Application of Altmetrics Coverage

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The factors that affect the coverage of altmetrics are discussed, which lays the foundation for the usage of altmetrics in academic evaluation.[Method/process] Based on Web of Science, Altmetric.com and Mendeley, the paper selected five disciplines' article papers published in 1996-2015, and discussed their differences of altmetrics coverage in terms of discipline, publishing year, journal, country and language.[Result/conclusion] Firstly, different altmetrics indicators have different coverage, and Mendeley is the highest. However, most indicators are very low. Secondly, it is necessary to distinguish and exclude the phenomenon of high coverage caused by the promotion strategy of journals when evaluating with altmetrics. Lastly, the coverage of altmetrics for different disciplines, year of publication, journals, countries and languages is different; therefore, it is necessary to consider the differences among different papers in the above factors when evaluating with altmetrics. When necessary, standardization should be taken into account.

  • Analysis of Altmetrics Indicators Based on Academic Books

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] This paper aims to explore the effectiveness of Altmetrics in revealing the impact of academic books, and then put forward reasonable suggestions for academic book evaluation. [Method/process] Four Altmetrics indicators, Twitter reference, Mendeley reading, text review and libcitation are collected. After analyzing the coverage, quantiles and other statistics of books, the correlation between book citation and Altmetrics indicators is carried out. Books of high indicator values are evaluated from the aspects of published year, discipline and subject in order to explore the application of these indicators in the use of book impact evaluation. [Result/conclusion] The low correlation between book citation and Altmetrics indicators shows that Altmetrics can be used as a new perspective for evaluating academic books, and different Altmetrics indicators reveal different dimensions of book impact. It is suggested to combine Altmetrics indicators and citation and make more use of the characteristics of books such as year and discipline in the future research of book impact evaluation.

  • Citation Prediction and Influencing Factors Analysis on Academic Papers

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] In this study, the prediction about future citation of a paper is analyzed by a set of features, which intends to evaluate the academic influence of a scholar, a paper and/or a publication. [Method/process] In this study, publications, authors and papers are investigated to discuss potential factors for citation prediction and SCI indexed papers in the field of Library Information are utilized as a concrete example to evaluate the validity of these factors. Several algorithms, such as logistic regression, GBDT, XGBoost, AdaBoost and Random Forest, are benchmarked on different evaluation metrics and the algorithm of GBDT is applied to identify influential factors. [Result/conclusion] Three aspects of influential factors for citation prediction are analyzed and different approaches are evaluated, which aims to predict citations of papers in the near future. Categories of experiments are conducted and it is found that GBDT, XGBoost and Random Forest perform the best. Also, the performance of citation prediction tends to be better on papers with a relative longer publication time.

  • A Review of Research on Affective Load Theory and Its Application in the Field of Information Behavior

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] By analyzing and summarizing the connotation, application and related findings of affective load theory, the paper aims to provide references to further domestic research design.[Method/process] Through literature research and analysis, this paper traces the background of affective load and states its theoretical connotation. It reviews the relevant empirical studies according to three stages, which are the stage of the germ of theory, the stage of theoretical proposition and the stage of subsequent application. The forming and developing process of the theory is analyzed and the future research directions are pointed out.[Result/conclusion] Affective load theory integrates multidisciplinary ideas of cognitive science, affective neuroscience, affect control theory and affective computing, it systematically examines users' sentiment in the process of informational behavior from the social-biological information technology model. Affective load is a negative emotion, which is a kind of uncertainty mainly resulting from the four negative emotions of irritation, anxiety, frustration and rage with time pressure. This negative emotion reduces the satisfaction of the user information utilization and also affects users' evaluation and acceptance of the information retrieval result. After affective load proposed, it was applied to different contexts such as virtual libraries, social media, daily information behavior.

  • Study of Libraries Service in Preservation of Personal Digital Information

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Through the definition and evaluation of personal digital information, and the analysis of its classification, preservation methods and potential risks, the article discusses the service model of preservation and management of personal digital information based on libraries, so as to provide reference for domestic libraries developing private customized preservation services. [Method/process] The study systematically has applied the methods of web research and case study, selected the Library of Congress, Campbell County Public Library, the British Library, and Library and Archives Canada, which are early to develop personal digital information preservation and management services with greater social impact, as examples, as well as researched and analyzed their methods and features of the preservation and management service. [Result/conclusion] Depending on the properties of public service organizations inheriting human civilization, the domestic public libraries could take advantage of their years of experience in digital information organization, preservation, management and service, combining with variable characteristics of personal digital information from different perspectives, including privacy levels and data types, to develop more personalized and embedded preservation and management services for personal digital information, especially in the aspects of service objects, services contents, services methods, along with maintenance and management.

  • Analysis of Service Architecture of Data Management Plan Tool DMPTool

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The research takes the significant data management plan tool, DMPTool, as the object, and analyzes its features for domestic libraries developing research data services. [Method/process] Based on the system test method and literature research, the article reviewed the development history and the research status of DMPTool, analyzed its service basics of templates, examples and resources, service systems of data management plan services, template and resource services, and users' profile services, and service methods for researchers and institutions. The research also summarized the advantages and limitations of DMPTool application in American academic libraries' research data services. [Result/conclusion] DMPTool is compatible with American funders' requirements for data management plans, and is used as important component of research data services by many academic libraries. Though DMPTool cannot be simply introduced into domestic libraries' research data services, its features deserve to be learned.

  • Research on Content Normalization of Data Paper

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The standardized management, citation and reuse of scientific data has attracted wide attention in academic circles. In this context, a large number of data papers and data journals have emerged to promote the rational use of scientific data. However, data paper has not yet formed a unified and standardized system. The study will summarize and refine the content framework and core modules of data paper published by data journals which are active in the research data publishing field, in order to provide reference for relevant personnel or organizations in writing, use and management of data papers.[Method/process] Comprehensive application of content analysis and comparative research methods, based on the thinking mode of scientific data users in searching, acquiring and reusing research data, and based on the submission guides or writing instructions issued by different data journals, the content framework and core modules of data paper were analyzed from six perspectives, including subject relevance, data quality, data generation and acquisition methods, application scenarios, usage methods and supplementary instructions.[Result/conclusion] At present, there is no submission guide or writing instructions of data journals that can fully cover all modules of data paper; the content composition of data paper is related to and different from that of traditional academic paper; the essential module of content framework of data paper focuses on describing the prominent characteristics of scientific data; a normalized description framework for features of scientific data is still on the way.

  • Identifying Expertise Tags of Scholars by Multiple Features of Academic Publications

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Identifying expertise tags of scholars is the most critical task in scholar profiling. Expertise tags contribute to finding peer experts, clustering domain scholars and selecting reviewers.[Method/process] This study analyzed related factors on the scholar expertise in academic publications, then constructed a hierarchical analysis model on the weight allocation of the factors. The TextRank algorithm has been used to identify topical terms in Chinese corpus, and the conceptual linking technique in English corpus. The extracted terms, together with the previously analyzed factors have been combined to select the expertise tags of the scholars. In this study, a group of honored scholars of different domains have been selected. Their research expertise information from their resumes have been taken as evaluation benchmark. And the expertise tags extracted from their publications have been compared with the benchmark by human judgment and additional semantic similarity judgment.[Result/conclusion] The evaluation shows that the expertise tags of 71.9% scholars are acceptable for Chinese, and 77.2% for English. The experiment proves that the method proposed in this article is pragmatic and may lead to reasonable results. The chief innovation of this study lies in three aspects, Firstly, term extraction approaches that suit to different application conditions have been explored, such as the language of publication and the availability of domain knowledge base. Secondly, multiple features have been combined together to identify the expertise tags of scholars, including the content of publications, the substantial contribution to the publications of the scholars, and the influence to the domain of the publications. Thirdly, a reasonable experimental design and evaluation method is proposed, and the proposed approach has been verified by combining manual scoring and semantic calculation results.

  • Analysis of Social Media Events in Altmetrics

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] In order to clarify the connotation and significance of the attention, dissemination and utilization of academic achievements in social media, to make a deep analysis of the altmetrics indicators that have been used and can be mined.[Method/process] From the perspective of event ontology, the acts related to academic achievements in social media are abstracted. Starting from the subject, object, product, type, motivation, time, place and resource of the event, the event model of social media is constructed. And the deep analysis of social media events is carried out with Mendeley and Twitter as examples.[Result/conclusion] At present, altmetrics aggregators only provide indicators from some social media events. Through the analysis of social media events and their elements, it is found that some other indicators with academic evaluation value should be included in evaluation system in the future, such as Mendeley group_count, Twitter favorite_count and so on. When using these indicators, it is necessary to evaluate the applicability of indicators in different academic evaluation contexts according to the elements of events. Meanwhile, the methods, frequencies and limitations of data acquisition should be taken into account to ensure the accuracy and scientificity of the indicators.

  • Research on Libcitation and the Evaluation of Scholarly Books

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] This paper explores how to apply the libcitation in the evaluation of scholarly books, to make suggestions for the evaluation of scholarly books.[Method/process] The paper discussed how libcitations be produced, be obtained and how to use libcitations in evaluation of scholarly books, taking WorldCat as an example to conduct an empirical analysis and discussion.[Result/conclusion] Libcitations can be got from library union catalogs. When obtaining the data, the appropriate retrieval method should be selected according to the selected source, so as to obtain the collection information of the works accurately. In the application of the libcitations, the features of the library should be considered to evaluate the influence of works more comprehensively and accurately.

  • Research on the Factors Affecting Search Failure in Digital Library

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] This paper discusses how task type, need for cognition and self-efficacy influence the frequency of failure.[Method/process] Using a cognitive complexity framework, the research designs five search tasks, and recruits 30 participants of Beijing Normal University to conduct takes. It obtains the relevant data by recording the participants searching process.[Result/conclusion] Task type and need for cognition have impact on the task of failure, and self-efficacy has impact on the query of failure. The users are more likely to encounter task failures, when they complete higher cognitive complexity of the tasks. The higher cognitive needs users will encounter smaller number of task failures, and have higher evaluation of the task. Higher self-efficacy users will encounter smaller number of query failures.

  • The Definition and Application of User Affective Factors in the Field of Information Seeking and Retrieval

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] This paper aims to comb the definition and application of affective factors by reviewing the studies on affective issues in the field of information seeking and retrieval. [Method/process] From the perspective of emotion, it analyzes affective research in the field of information seeking and retrieval at home and abroad from the perspective of the definition of affective concepts, the types of affective factors, and the representation and application of affective factors based on emotional theories. [Result/conclusion] Affective related references are diverse, roughly including affect and affective factors. The former mainly includes impression, emotion, feelings, affect and so on. The latter is broader and involves non-emotional factors. In general, there is much research on emotional theories and the expression of emotional factors, in which most researchers directly borrow the concept of affect from the field of psychology but seldom distinguish them strictly. Finally, it summarizes affective concepts, the types of affective factors, the measurement and application of affective factors and provides some research directions for the future.

  • Design and Implementation of Ontology-based Citation Knowledge Service Prototype System

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] For now, the construction of domestic citation database had already begun to take shape. In the development of citation knowledge services, the current organization and retrieval methods of scientific literature resources make the current citation knowledge service model unable to reveal the structure or relationship between citations, which caused difficulties for the acquisition, sharing and utilization of citations.[Method/process] This paper took citation data as the research object, acquired and sorted all kinds of knowledge and explored the semantic relationship between citations. Two ontology named "scientific researcher ontology" and "citation knowledge ontology" were constructed, and an ontology-based citation knowledge service prototype system was designed and implemented.[Result/conclusion] Conducts empirical research on the construction of ontology-based citation knowledge service system, The result proves that the ontology-based citation knowledge service system has the expected goals and functions.

  • Research on Description Model Design of Ancient Buildings from the Perspective of Digital Humanities——Take Shichahai Region as an Example

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] From the perspective of digital humanities, this paper aims to realize the rational description of ancient buildings, and promote the protection and utilization of ancient buildings. [Method/process] This paper analyzed the existing resource organization methods, and took the Shichahai region as an example, based on the characteristics of the ancient buildings in the region and digital resources, by reusing existing metadata standards and ontology, combined with the custom entities and attributes, from the relationships between the ancient buildings and other entities and the character descriptions of ancient buildings to design ancient buildings description model. Information organization tools such as vocabularies were used to enrich the model. [Result/conclusion] Through the design of the model, the three-dimensional and multi-angle description of the ancient buildings in this region can be realized, as well as the integration of the ancient buildings and related objects, so as to improve the knowledge service ability related to ancient buildings.

  • Information Security Risks Caused by Cloud Service Agreement and Suggestions for Library and Information Community

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The application of cloud service in the library can effectively improve the data storage and computing capacity of the library, but it also brings a lot of information resource security problems, and the non-standard cloud computing service agreement aggravates the information security risks faced by the library.[Method/process] This paper focused on the information security clauses in the cloud service agreement, selected 8 cloud services on behalf of the operator's service agreement as a sample, and analyzed the information security risks that exist in the current cloud service agreement terms in depth from data collection, data storage, data transmission, data access and service security.[Result/conclusion] The information security risks that library application cloud services may face include:the lack of cloud service agreement content, the difficulty of obtaining accurate protection of user information security; the vague description of cloud service agreement, the establishment of a sound security guarantee mechanism; the formulation of cloud service agreement are more conducive to cloud providers, so user rights are vulnerable. In this environment, the library should further clarify the ownership of library user data and emphasize the security of library information resources.

  • Research on the Registered Reports and Its Value of Promoting Open Science Development

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] The open scientific environment puts higher demands on the transparency, rigor and openness of scientific research. In this context, the Registered Reports on emerging publications, which aims to meet the demands, are rising and further promoting the development and evolution of open science. This paper intends to comprehensively introduce the background and development process of the Registered Reports and try to research its main function and core value in promoting the development of open science. [Method/process] Comprehensively used the network research method and content analysis method, the background of the Registered Reports, the development status, content composition, publishing process, main functions and core values were applied to systematically sort out the development of this emerging publication. [Result/conclusion] The outstanding characteristics of the Registered Reports are mainly reflected in 2 aspects:①in terms of content composition, Registered Reports not only includes the final research results, but also requires researchers to elaborate the research plan;②in terms of publishing process, most journals adopt the two-stage publishing form of submitting research plans and research results before and after collecting experimental data. Therefore, it is conducive to reduce the occurrence of publication bias,standardize and innovate the publishing process,and further improve the transparency, reliability and rigor of research results.

  • Study on the Change of Scientific Research Cooperation Before and After Receiving the Cheung Kong Scholars Award: A Case Study of Recipients in 2005

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Scientific cooperation has become a common phenomenon in research activities, and many research projects have also included teamwork in the scope of assessment of implementation effects. Therefore, it is beneficial to the evaluation and sustainable development of the talents projects to explore the changes in the cooperation relationship before and after their receiving the support and explore the role of Cheung Kong Scholars in team building, international and domestic cooperation.[Method/process] In this study, we take the recipients in 2005 of the Cheung Kong Scholars Award as example and take the Wilcoxon signed rank test method to analyze the changes in the cooperative relationship before and after their receiving the award. The cooperative relationship includes the following aspects:the size of the cooperation social network, the strength of cooperation, the duration of cooperation, the role of cooperation, the strength of international and domestic cooperation. The dataset of this study comprised 83 researchers and 11 522 SCI/SSCI papers published between 1996 and 2015, and the analysis was divided into two 10-year periods-the preaward period (1996-2005) and the postaward period (2006-2015).[Result/conclusion] It is found that the Cheung Kong Scholars have played a leading role in team building, international and domestic cooperation after reviving the award. The scholars significantly increased their cooperation social networks (42 VS. 148) and enhanced their cooperation strength (2.17 VS. 2.45) with their partners in the postaward periods. However, the duration of cooperation between the recipients and their collaborators before and after receiving the award was relatively short, and nearly 70% of the cooperation lasted only one year. Moreover, the scholars' coauthorship patterns changed significantly after receiving the award. In both number and proportion, they became less likely to act as the first author, but more likely to be listed as the last author or corresponding author.

  • Research on the Training Needs and Strategies of University Librarians——Taking the Investigation of the Training Needs of University Librarians in Beijing as an Example

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Aiming at the problems of uneven professional quality levels of librarians, difficulties for new and old librarians to meet post requirements, and lack of independent scientific research ability of some librarians, this paper makes an investigation and analysis of the training needs of librarians in Beijing area, with a view to putting forward targeted training strategies to guide practice.[Method/process] Based on the questionnaire of "Survey on the Training Needs of librarians of University Libraries in Beijing Area" and feedback question naire of previous off-line training on BALIS Training Center, the training needs of librarians of university libraries, including two aspects of training content and form requirements, were obtained through cross-analysis method and inductive method, and the improvement strategies of current training were put forward accordingly.[Result/conclusion] The paper puts forward the improvement strategies, including developing a systematic training plan, dividing the types of librarians and layering the training of librarians, carefully designing training content and paying attention to the multi-ability integration of training content, focusing on face-to-face training, expanding training channels,and providing training support, and explains the specific connotation and measures.

  • Study on Research Model of Library and Information Science in China Based on Periodical Papers

    Abstract: [Purpose/significance] Since 2007, more than 20 000 journal papers have been published annually in the field of library and information science in China. Taking CNKI records as an example and revealing the topic selection and research characteristics of these journal papers can reflect the current research style in library and information science to a certain extent, and can also provide reference for the researchers of library and information science in China to grasp the development context of the discipline and expand research ideas.[Method/process] This paper applied both of theoretical induction and comparative research methods, combed the current research model of library and information science from 4 perspectives of topic selection, source materials, research methods and writing ideas, summarizied and extracted 7 research models of library and information science in China, and took the papers published in 18 core journals of library and information science from 2015 to 2017 as the research object, empirical analysis of these 7 research models is made on the distribution of total quantity, publication year, journal and author organization.[Result/conclusion] 7 research models of library and information science in China have different characteristics under the comprehensive drive of theoretical creation subject, journal theme orientation, practical application scenario and modern technology development, which are embodied as follows:exploratory research of new ideas and new technology mode creates new scenarios of library practice; theoretical induction research of documentation and information resource has become the current mainstream research mode; research of application analysis of front line business enriches the research system of library and information science; research of mathematical statistics application expands the research methods of library and information science; computer software application and algorithm design research under the background of modern information technology development broadens the research perspective of library and information science; subject integration model provides a new channel for cross-border research of library and information science.
